We were discussing John the Baptist as a family. In Luke 7, JB's disciples had come and asked Jesus if He was the one. John was in prison and was getting discouraged. Jesus told his disciples this..."“Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” Jesus is pointing John to scripture.... (Isa. 29:18,19; 35:5, 6; 61:1)
Then it says the disciples left and after they were gone...Jesus says the most amazing things about John. Why didn't Jesus say all those things to John's disciples?? I think it is because ultimately the Word of God should be our ultimate authority and encouragement in life. Encouraging words are nice...but the way our flesh is we forget them easily. We will need them day by day to prop us up. I do not want to be propped up!! I want the encouragement of the Word of God.melanie
