David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God. -1 Samuel 30:6
I was reminded of this passage this morning. I love it. David is such a great example of a man that trusted God. God said that David was a man after His own heart. Wow. So...I like to look at how he reacted to hardship. The way that Christians talk and react today is totally opposite of the example we see in David. His hope was always in God and God's goodness towards Him. He never expected bad from God or saw God as the author or giver of bad. (i.e. sickness, disease, affliction, poverty.) He saw God as His salvation, deliverer, strength, defender. He trusted God. David did not have a new covenant through Christ either!! What we have is even based on better promises than what David had. Amazing, amazing.
